Episode Transcript:
[00:00:00] Hello, all you. Happy little Bluebird. Welcome to this week’s episode of why oh why. Can’t I? I am your host, Christy Keane, and I inspire women to stop asking how someone else is able to do something and start asking why oh why can’t I? And today, you guys, we are gonna talk about how you can start a podcast that sounds professional and is engaging and.
Today we’re gonna talk about how to start a podcast, and today’s gonna be a little bit of a snacker. Next week we’re gonna get into a lot of details and I will even have an ebook that will literally talk you through step by step exactly what you need to do. But this week I wanna give you a quick episode because you don’t need.
All of that to get started by any means. In fact, you can have a professional sounding podcast just by looking like you’re having a conversation on your phone, which I am right now. I am currently releasing this. I [00:01:00] am recording this podcast on my lunch break for my nursing orientation. If you haven’t heard, I’m going back to NICU nursing part-time.
And I’m recording this on my phone, sitting in my car, waiting for my food, and I have the phone held up to my ear like I’m having a telephone conversation. It’s so easy, and there’s literally hardly any barrier to starting a podcast right now. If you have an iPhone, if that’s what you’re listening to me on, and you have had an idea for a podcast and you think it’ll help somebody, or somebody needs to hear what you have to say, then you need to do.
All you need to do step by step is first download Anchor fm. No, this is not sponsored or affiliated with Anchor in any way, but as somebody who has made a podcast in the past before these tools existed, it is insane to me how easy it is just to use Anchor fm. It’s a free platform and it makes it really fun and easy to start a podcast from your phone.
[00:02:00] It handles all of the RSS feeds, all of the technical expertise or fancy equipment that you would need a few years ago. Now, anchor FM’s gonna do it for you. All you need is a phone and your voice. So once you download that, you gotta name your podcast and get some cover art started. Don’t be intimidated by that name, your podcast, you know, it’s fun.
It’s your chance to get creative. You can showcase your unique personality and brand. You can always change it. I would just say the one thing to consider for this quick start is to make sure that it’s not already taken on social media channels and that there’s already not a podcast named after that.
In terms of getting cover art, you guys, another great free resource is Canva. Just go to canva.com, go to the templates, type in podcast cover art, and just make one. You can always, always change your podcast cover later, and I will tell you next week in my detailed, [00:03:00] much less snacky information about starting a podcast, exactly how you can do that with no, no, uh, with no creative skills whatsoever in like two seconds.
But for right now, the important thing is, is that I want you guys to get started and to get your messages out into the world. That is what podcasts are about. It’s about you connecting with a community with your words and your message, okay? It’s not about the cover art, so just make a quick cover art, slap it on there.
It’ll tell you exactly where to upload it in the anchor. , but we need to get you to build that momentum before you let your cover heart stop you from doing this. Please don’t do that. I have been that position myself. I say that with advice because of how much time I lost thinking about those things that don’t matter when you start.
Now it’s time to record your podcast. Now that you have [00:04:00] your podcast name and cover r, it’s time to record your first episode. Like I said, anchor FM app makes us very easy to just record from your phone. I like to do it, as I mentioned in the beginning by holding the iPhone up to my ear like I’m having a telephone call.
Not only do I like this because I have a little bit of social anxiety and I don’t want people to hear me recording a podcast, but when I’m sitting in my car right now recording this, it just looks like I’m having a phone call. So it makes it so easy, so accessible. You can just be doing a walk around the park.
Or the mall, whatever, and somebody will just think you’re on a phone call. But really, you are recording an important message and about to share it with the entire world. The other great reason this technique is awesome is because of the noise. Cancelation. iPhones have the microphone located at the bottom near the speaker, so when you’re holding your phone up to your ear like a phone call, your.
[00:05:00] And the ear form a barrier to reduce the background noise. So you’re already getting background noise reduction that literally people pay a lot of money for
in terms of enhancing your audio. There are. The Anchor FM app itself has tools to enhance the, to enhance the audio right within the app. There’s also buttons you can push to create your intro music or have sound effects. It’s really amazing everything you can do from right within the app. Really quickly though, I do want to say for those of you who want to take your audio quality to the next, Still recording on your phone.
I would say download the Phite app, F E R R I T E, and record on there. And the reason why I use Phite is really only because I have a plugin called Breast free, B R [00:06:00] U S F R I, breastf Fry. I don’t even know how to pronounce that, but that is an AI tool that removes background noise. That’s really, really good.
But again, that’s next level stuff you don’t have to do for a quick. No extra apps or plug-ins necessarily necessary. Just record on the Anchor FM app. Then once you’ve recorded and enhanced your audio, all you gotta do is upload your podcast to Anchor fm. They will tell you publish this episode. It will automatically distribute your podcast to all of the major platforms.
So Apple Podcast, Google Play over. Spotify, all of that. All you need to do is select the button that says, distribute my podcast everywhere, and they will notify you and becomes available. You guys, you can reach global audiences and inspire literally the world with your message. You have that capability right now with what?
If you’re listening [00:07:00] to me on the phone, it’s, I’m sure you probably have an iPhone if you have one or Android. I don’t know if what’s different between the two when it comes to recording, but. Insanely powerful is that, let me say that again. You have all the tools you need to share your message with the entire world, and I tell you there is definitely somebody who needs to hear it.
And that is why I am recording this podcast episode between my, in my lunch break for my nursing orientation, because I know the exact person. Who needs to hear this will be listening, and I hope that if you listen to this podcast and you downloaded the app and you realize how easy it is and that you’re gonna be able to help, even if you help one person, even if it helps you, sometimes it’s very therapeutic to have a podcast.
But I just hope that you recognize [00:08:00] how cool that is and how easy it is, and I hope that you will send me a message and let me know that you are starting the process. I wanna listen. Podcast, please let me be the first subscriber. I would love that. The other cool thing about Anchor, if you’re not, you can, when you upload to Anchor or when you download the Anchor app and name a podcast and all those things, I wanna reassure you that it is not automatically live into the world.
You are not committing to hosting this podcast and it being a public thing right away. It’s all just in. Draft mode, if you will, until you are ready to hit publish. What is cool about that and what I think is awesome is that you can batch record a ton of episodes and just get started with that. So when you’re ready to press record, you have a podcast ready to upload that has bingeable episodes for your audience.
And again, this is a snackable episode cuz I just want you guys to get started. But stay tuned because next week I’m gonna blow your. [00:09:00] We can literally be drafting and done with your entire podcast for the year in like a day if you wanted to. So definitely tune in next week, and until then, I can’t wait to see all of you.
Happy little Bluebird on the other side of the rainbow.
